Learn moreGetting a coated garage floor is simpler than most people expect. Here is the usual path from first request to parking on the new floor.
Tell us about your garage: size, town, the system you are curious about and any cracks or stains. It takes about a minute.
A local installer checks the concrete, looks for moisture problems and damage, measures the floor and gives you a written price.
The floor is diamond ground, cracks are repaired, then the base coat, flakes and top coat go down, often in one to two days.
After the cure time for your system, you put the cars, bikes and storage back on a floor that sweeps clean.

Bare concrete has a hard life here. Evansville averages January lows around 25°F, and the average first freeze lands near October 26 with the last around April 7. Through that stretch, the city and county put down thousands of tons of road salt; the city had 6,000 tons ready for the January 2026 storm. That brine rides home on your tires and drips onto the slab, where freezing and thawing work it into the surface and cause pitting and flaking.
Summers bring the opposite problem. The muggy season runs from about mid-May to mid-October, with roughly 41 days a year at or above 90°F. Humid air can make bare concrete sweat, and hot tires coming off summer roads are hard on cheap coatings, which is where hot-tire pickup starts.
A properly prepped, professionally installed coating seals the surface so salt, oil and water sit on top and wipe up. A flake broadcast hides dirt and adds grip, and a UV-stable polyaspartic top coat holds its color near an open door. Many Evansville homes are older, with a median home built in 1961, so slab prep and crack repair are often part of the job.

Tip: ask any installer for their written warranty terms. Coating warranties in this industry vary widely, and many cover defects like peeling but exclude damage from impacts, chemicals or moisture coming up through the slab.

Typical installed ranges for 2025–2026 run about $5–$8 per square foot for solid-color epoxy and $5.50–$10 for a flake epoxy system. That works out to roughly $2,500–$5,000 for a standard 2-car garage of about 500 sq ft. These are estimates; your real price depends on floor size, condition and the system you pick, confirmed after an on-site look.
It depends mostly on the product and the prep. Water-based DIY epoxy kits typically last 3–5 years. A professionally installed solid epoxy floor commonly lasts 10–20 years, and polyaspartic systems 10–20 years or more. Proper diamond grinding, sound repairs and a quality top coat are what let a floor reach the long end of those ranges.
Both can work well. Epoxy is a proven, budget-friendly base coat. Polyaspartic top coats cure faster, are UV stable so they resist yellowing near open garage doors, and handle temperature swings well. Many installers combine them: an epoxy or polyaspartic base, a flake broadcast and a polyaspartic clear top coat. An installer can recommend a system after seeing your slab.
For a professional-grade bond, yes. Diamond grinding removes the weak top layer, old sealers and stains, and opens the concrete so the coating can grip it. Acid etching, common with DIY kits, does less to create that profile. Poor prep is one of the most common reasons coatings peel or lift under hot tires.
It varies by product, temperature and humidity. Fast-cure polyaspartic systems often allow light foot traffic within hours and vehicles in about a day or two, while many epoxy systems need several days before you drive on them. Always follow the installer's and manufacturer's cure directions, since Ohio Valley humidity and cold weather can slow curing.
